ART - POLI OTHER PROGRAMS

All classes run during college breaks.

ART - POLI DOES NOT CHARGE A FEE FOR COURSES OR TOURS. PARTICIPANTS PAY AIRFARE AND HOUSING DIRECTLY TO THE AIRLINE AND LANDLORD.

If the program provides studio space those fees are paid to the studio director. Printmaking, glassblowing, marble sculpture, jewelry design, and culinary programs all have small fees for the rental of space and instructors. Rental includes classes. Those program fees are paid to those sources not ART - POLI.

ALL other ART - POLI organized classes are free of charge. Free classes include painting, drawing, art and city tours, some museums, local excursions, and art history lessons.

ART- POLI Painting, Drawing, Photography, Creative Writing and Art History in Florence, Italy

Summer, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, semester

ART- POLI invites artists of all levels to spend two weeks in Firenze, Italy, painting, drawing, and photographing on location. Students will also travel outside Firenze, to Fiesole, Venice, and Cinque Terre. The program will include studio and art history lessons and a local understanding of the region by engaging in tours and activities. These include sketching in museums, churches, the marketplace, the Italian countryside, and Riviera. Students will have the option of having an art show of their summer work created in Florence. The program includes cooking classes in the countryside, plus day, evening excursions and many other surprises! All ages, levels of artists, and types of mediums welcome, oils, acrylics, watercolors, and pastels! The program focuses on drawing, painting, and photography.

ART - POLI JEWELRY DESIGN Florence, Italy

Summer, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, semester

Create jewelry based on the influence of Florentine art, life, and fashion. Study, new techniques, technologies, materials, design, historical changes, and significance on the social environment. Filing, soldering, polishing, piercing, forging, wire sewing, setting cabochon stone, design, drafting, texture, engineering, fabrication, wax carving, and casting are included. Fashion design as well as museum tours will be incorporated into the program.

ART - POLI Printmaking in Venice, Italy

Spring, Summer, Fall, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, semester

Spend the summer printmaking in the Italian city of romance and the first paperback book, Venice, Italy. Create your art in a Venetian studio using solvents, quality papers, and ink. Learn about Venetian painting and prints. Visit museums and galleries. The program includes tours of the island, apartments in the center of the city, art classes, an open studio for ten hours, your easel, a drawing table, printmaking machines, and a computer for film editing. Enjoy your nights in the Venetian moonlight, an inspiration for any artist. All students will have an art show in a professional gallery in Venice!

ART – POLI Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Photography, Architecture, Restoration, Creative Writing and Theater in Rome, Italy

Spring, Summer, and Fall

ART – POLI welcomes students and professional artists, to study in the eternal city of the world, Rome. Art classes, tours of museums, famous churches, food markets, cooking and oenology classes are all included. Entrance to an opera, or fashion show, as well as tours of Florence, Italy, and the countryside. Classes are available for credit, non-credit, and certificates.

ART - POLI Marble Sculpture in Carrara, Italy

Come carve and create marble sculptures in the same place Michelangelo got the marble for his David! Live in Carrara Italy. Work in a studio in the Italian mountains. Meet other artists.

ART - POLI Glass Blowing in Murano

Live on the famous glass-blowing island of Murano, Italy, 10 minutes from Venice! Spend the summer blowing glass in a studio of professional artists. Have an art show. Sell your art!

ART - POLI in Verona, Italy

Spring, Summer, Fall

ART - POLI comes to Verona, Italy. Classes in Painting, Drawing, Literature, Creative Writing, and Poetry. Come study the romantic arts in the town of Romeo and Juliet. Includes visits to famous museums and excursions to the countryside for painting and writing. All participants will learn how to publish their books.

ART - POLI Learn Italian in Italy

Learn conversational Italian in Italy from a native Italian teacher. Live and speak Italian with locals. Gain confidence and experience ordering food, traveling, and living on location. The trip includes apartments in Florence, a trip to Venice, the Italian countryside, and much more.

ART - POLI OENOLOGY PROGRAM

(Italy, Paris, Spain, Greece, Malta, Portugal, Germany, Japan, New York, Seattle, San Francisco)

Students will learn about the special wines and beers of the region. Includes history, visits, and tours to local vineyards, Enoteca shops, and breweries. An oenologist will accompany the excursions. Students in the Oenology Program will create their own signature wine/ This program is also for graphic design and culinary students. Design students will customize their labels for production. Culinary students will learn how to pair their signature dish with their drink.

ART - POLI CULINARY PROGRAM

Learn on location in the country that inspired the food. Students go market shopping, learn about foods famous for the region and make their signature dishes! Guest chefs, visits to local restaurants, and preparation of food, all included!

ART - POLI in Malta

ART - POLI Painting on Location, Malta

The ART - POLI program in Malta exposes students and artists to Maltese culture, fine arts (painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture), art history, and photography. Students establish an understanding and collaboration between Maltese and American art and culture. Participants create work inspired by Malta and its art. ART - POLI organizes art classes, events, tours, museums, gallery exhibits, critiques, readings, culinary studies, language classes, and other activities to understand Maltese culture and inspire a creative, unique personal journey for each participant.

ART - POLI in London

MUSIC ON LOCATION Rock, Punk, and New Wave London, England

Spring

Learn about the British rock music of the 60s to ’80s, Rock to Punk to New Wave in the heart of the explosion, London, England. Walk the streets of famous musicians from the Beatles to David Bowie. Visit music studios, clothing stores, pubs, and clubs where musicians got their influences. Tour the famous Camden market, Islington, Soho, King’s Cross, and Abbey Road! Shop with rock and roll fashion and leave with a pair of Doc Martens. Top it all off with a rock concert! Students will study the music of The Beatles, The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Jam, Joy Division, The Buzzcocks, Siouxsie & The Banshees and The Damned, Adam Ant, Bowie, Bolan, Culture Club, Elton John, The Clash, The Damned, Lennox, Madness, The Animals, Rolling Stones and much more!

Painting, Drawing, and Art History On Location, London, Northern France, and Iceland

2 weeks / Spring, Summer, Fall

Students will paint, draw and photograph, in London and Northern France. Plus, study the art of the Impressionist painters, as well as famous sites that inspired famous artists. Art lessons, museum visits, and tours are all included.

Round-trip transportation from the airport to Reykjavik, tours of downtown art, entrance to museums, the Hallgrimskirkja church, a visit to the Blue Lagoon, and much more!

The objective of ART - POLI Paris is for participants to experience Paris, and its art on their terms exploring techniques of painting and drawing on location, with an added foundation in the fundamentals of Parisian art history. Courses in Photography, Creative Writing, Language, Fashion, Film, Culinary, and Oenology Studies will also be offered.

ART - POLI in Spain

Painting, Drawing, and Art History On Location in Spain

Summer, Spring, Fall (Barcelona and Madrid)

ART - POLI invites students and artists to study art history, painting, and drawing in Spain. The program also includes cooking classes with a regional chef. Courses are available in photography, ceramics, textiles, creative writing, theater, film, and Flamingo dance and music. All classes are taught by professional artists and famous performers in the region. The program includes tours of Barcelona and Madrid, as well as daily excursions and entrances to museums.

ART - POLI in Portugal

Spring, Summer, Fall

Paint, draw, and photograph in Portugal with ART - POLI for credit or non-credit. Courses are available in ceramics and textiles. Visit Lisbon, Algarve, romantic Sintra, Coimbra and Evora. All classes, excursions, tours, and entrances to museums are included!

ART - POLI in Amsterdam

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter

Paint, draw, and visit the famous museums of Amsterdam. Study the works of Backer, Bosch, Brueghel, Kals, Leyden, Victors, Hooch, Petrus, Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Vermeer, Victors, (plus more). Study Dutch masters with an emphasis on painting with light. Students will paint plain air in the day and evenings to capture the unique architecture of Amsterdam, plus have a European art show!

ART - POLI in Germany

Painting, Drawing, and Art History On Location in Germany

Spring, Summer, and Fall (Munich, Cologne, and Frankfurt)

Study German expressionism in Germany. Learn about German artists Max Bechmann, Kirchner, Munch, Nolde, Münter, Heckel and Bernhard. Austrian artists Kokoschka, and Egon Schiele will also be studied. The program includes museum visits and the philosophy and meanings of art during this time period.

ART - POLI in Vienna

Spring, Summer, Fall

ART - POLI offers music appreciation in the city of Mozart and Beethoven. The program includes entrance to museums and music classes. Poetry, creative writing, painting, and drawing will be incorporated into the program. Students interested in the music portion of the program should have some musical experience, including introduction classes to piano or violin.

ART - POLI in Japan

Spring
ART- POLI Japan invites artists of all levels to spend two weeks in Japan, painting, drawing, photographing, printmaking, and learning woodblock on location. Study the art of Ukiyo-e. Learn about Japanese painting, prints, and woodblocks. Other Japanese ancient and modern arts will be examined to explore the relationship between modern tattoos, irezumi and horimono symbolism.

ART - POLI accompanies the famous Cherry Blossom Festival, a visit to Mt. Fuji, and excursions to museums with culinary classes a Japanese Tea Ceremony, and Fashion exploring the Lolita, Gyaru, Bosozoku, Visual Kei, their influence on modern androgyny and music. Other classes include Collotype Photography, The Art of Paper Making, and the History of Kabuki and its art and role in modern dance, acting, fashion, sexuality, avant-garde theater, plus a ticket to a traditional Kabuki and Bunraku show.

The ART - POLI Oenology program, includes classes on the history, ancient and modern production of rice wine, entrance, tours to the Sake Museum, and a wine tasting.

ART - POLI Academy invites students and artists to study in India and Africa (Egypt) with classes in painting, drawing, art history, photography, hand block printing, yoga and meditation, health and science, herbology, and creative writing.

ART - POLI Australia and New Zealand
Summer / Fall / Winter / Spring
Create art in Australia or New Zealand. The program works with local artists. Learn about the indigenous art and people of the area. Museum tours, art galleries, and studio visits will accompany your journey. Classes are available for credit, non-credit, and certificates. Subjects include a full painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, wood crafting, textiles, jewelry, music, fashion, creative writing, literature, herbology, religion, yoga, and meditation program.

ART - POLI in New York

June and Mid December

ART - POLI, invites artists of all levels to spend two weeks in NYC, painting and drawing on location. Artists will also travel outside the city to the surrounding boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx, to visit famous museums and art landmarks. Classes will include art history and a local understanding of the region through tours and engaging in activities of the area. These include painting and sketching in museums, galleries, the marketplace, and famous areas in New York City, as well as classes in photography on location, filmmaking, fashion, culinary studies, literature, and creative writing.

ART - POLI Bicycle and Vespa Tours

All ART - POLI programs will now offer Vespa and Bicycle tours. Come cycle in the city and countryside! Explore Tuscan wine country, the quiet alleyways of Malta, the colorful Parisian cobblestone streets, London's architecture, and so much more! The tour starts with a nutritious breakfast, a break for lunch in the countryside, time for photographs and sketching, and to return for dinner in the city! Plus, the ART - POLI outstanding art programs in painting, drawing, printmaking, art history, sculpture, glass blowing, architecture, photography, fashion, graphic design, jewelry making, creative writing, literature, poetry, language, philosophy, music, film, theater, and dance.

Food and Sustainability Program

Fall / Spring /Summer

Learning the art of organic farming from planting to market production. The program also includes classes and workshops in agriculture, arboriculture, horticultural and medicinal plants.

Ride and journal throughout Europe.
