Painting on Location London
Course Offerings
Painting, Drawing, Photography and Art History

Late March to Mid April
Course Painting, Drawing and Art History On Location, London and Iceland!
Course prerequisites: None
Students will work in pencil, charcoal, acrylics or watercolor. Photography will also be incorporated into the course. Students will be responsible for creating a portfolio of combined images of drawings, paintings, photography or a journal that represent English art and culture. They will also be responsible for creating a theme in photographs that represent the city. Sessions will end with an informal critique. Students will have the option of displaying their work in an art gallery. Instructional arrangements: Painting and drawing lectures and sessions will be outside on location and painting plein air. Art history lessons will be in museums and galleries as well as the English countryside.
ICELAND
Round trip transportation from airport to Reykjavik, tours of downtown art, entrance to museums, the Hallgrimskirkja church, a visit to the Blue Lagoon plus much more!
Requirements of the Class for sessions:
End of class documentation of paintings, drawings and photographs in a visual travel diary or portfolio for final critique.
Instructional arrangements:
Painting and drawing lectures and sessions will be outside on location and painting plein air.
Art history lessons will be in museums and galleries as well as the English countryside.
The Course Objectives for Drawing and Art History on Location, London:
1. Learning the tools and techniques necessary to develop a work of art.
2. Learning to paint, draw, photograph on location.
3. Using observation and linear perspective to explore, composition, form, color, space, light, shadow and texture in
painting, drawing and photography.
4. Use of making art for creative expression and travel diaries.
5. International understanding of English art through travel, experience and art history
lectures.
6. Student developing a global sense of art appreciation.
7. Expressing different ways to document art by developing an art vocabulary.
8. Learning different ways to see art by viewing works in museums/ galleries/ and or piazzas.
Painting, Drawing and Art History On Location, London
Pre Trip / Before Depature to Europe:
Students will have a 16 hour workshop (starting in Spring Quarter) painting and drawing in their home location and school before departing to London. This workshop is divided into eight sessions two hours each.
In London:
Students will have 1 hour a day art history lessons each morning before excursions to sites.
Students will have 1 hours art history lessons on site for duration of trip and will spend 3 hours painting, drawing and photographing on location.
Post Trip:
Students will have an art show upon return to their home school and finish their assignments, research papers and portfolio for their final grade.

MUSIC ON LOCATION Rock, Punk and New Wave
Learn about the British rock music of the 60’s to 80’s, Rock to Punk to New Wave in the heart of the explosion, London, England. Walk the streets of famous musicians from the Beatles to David Bowie. Visit music studios, clothing stores, pubs and clubs where musicians got their influences. Tour the famous Camden market, Islington, Soho, King’s Cross and Abbey Road! Shop with rock and roll fashion and leave with a pair of Doc Martens. Top it all off with a rock concert!
Students will study the music of: The Beatles, The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Jam, Joy Division, The Buzzcock’s, Siouxsie & The Banshees and The Damned, Adam Ant, Bowie, Bolan, Culture Club, Elton John, The Clash, The Damned, Lennox, Madness, The Animals, Rolling Stones and much more!
