Growing up in New York City in a multi-ethnic family and neighborhood I was always surrounded by diversity.

I was given a solid platform for self-worth, and identity. I promised myself as a teacher, I would listen to understand, embrace, and be open.

When I first started teaching, I developed a classroom art gallery, discussion board, and a painting online blog and students loved coming to class. Students stated they felt supported, valued, and heard.

When I taught in Italy, I designed a course on Italian Woman Artists, as well as the African Presence in Paintings, during the Renaissance. In Japan, I created a curriculum on the relationship of Ancient Japanese Art and Woodcuts to Modern Tattoos. In India, I worked on an integrated mural project, and in Seattle, I create courses and art exhibits that attract many populations, including my copyrighted course and book, Painting for Everyone. I also designed a Market Art workshop and wrote a textbook for that class that gives extensive information on connecting with art residencies around the world.

In 1998, I developed ART - POLI and received a Service-Learning Award for creating new student volunteer opportunities. In 2017, I created an Art Therapy class for Seattle Central College. That same year, I worked with artists returning to painting after brain surgery. Recently, after writing my 20th art textbook, I created a publishing art class that gives students a chance to write their first book in five languages. Outside the classroom, I am involved with art volunteer opportunities in museums, galleries, multicultural programs, and community projects.
